Description

Lighting the Way Encounter 3 Encounters will add warmth to your personal space. It tells the story of the meeting of cultures.

As the quickest means of travel for Māori during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, fleets of war canoe or waka taua would speed along the coastline. Waka crews would encounter strangers seeking trade in flax, timber, seal, and whale oil. Back in their home port, traders would tell stories of the wonders of
a rich and untamed land inhabited by a warlike people.
